Bluegrass 101 is a traditional bluegrass band that has been performing at festivals all around Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee since 1994. Founder Terry Waldridge didn’t start playing until the age of 35, but you’d never guess it from his smooth vocals and hard-driving guitar playing.
The guys from Bluegrass 101 present a professional image, dressing up to play a style they refer to as “a prerequisite to bluegrass music.” With one foot planted firmly in the past, they also look toward the future of bluegrass and have shared the stage with such well-known contemporary players as Ricky Skaggs and Doyle Lawson.
Bluegrass 101 has several albums to its credit, including 2002’s Live at Mackville, and has received numerous awards. In 2003, the group won the Bluegrass Battle of the Bands competition at the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro.
The lineup seen on Mixed Media includes Waldridge, guitar and lead vocals; Mike Yount, bass and baritone vocals; Vernon Drury, banjo and bass vocals; Mark Smith, dobro and tenor vocals; and Mark Royal, mandolin.
